Urban Decay in Trinidad Cities: Port of Spain and San Fernando

Urban decay is a theme within Urban Geography which is affecting cities worldwide. It is not a new phenomena in urban spaces. But cities say something about a country and derelict and dilapidated structures paints a negative picture. Urban developers and Governments need to take their roles seriously and not let cities die as these are the faces of a nation. Development of a country is important but neglect of a city is detrimental.

When I saw these walls and their state, these lyrics came to my head. The first and third pictures starting from the upper left going clockwise are images taken from Broadway, Port of Spain whilst the second is taken along Independence Square close to Nelson Street, Port of Spain.

Great photos. What does it mean? Do we need better engineers specialising in concrete and concrete decay? What do you want to say with this post?
